Our Story
Who We Are
Kevin & Julie Johnson grew up in Mankato, Minnesota. Today after living and working and owning businesses in the St. Cloud area for 40 years, Kevin’s “I have an idea” never gets old. They started looking at the east side of St. Cloud and envisioning how to revitalize an area that they have had a passion for, the east side of St. Cloud, MN.
The daunting task of doing a startup business and a distillery as well was born. Three years in we have learned a lot and grown along the way. 2026 looks to be a growth and development into new areas for Iron Street Distillery and we thank our customers for jumping off the street and onto the rails with us. We couldn’t do this without you!

Iron Street Distillery is Central Minnesota’s first distillery located in St. Cloud, MN. The people of Iron Street are passionate about doing things the right way, and our Whiskey, Rum, Bourbon, Rye, Gin, and Vodka are no exception.
Our Journey
In December 2021, Kevin & Julie purchased the historic 539 Building. Originally built by International Harvester in 1928 this beautiful building has a long history in St. Cloud. The idea to repurpose the 64,000 square foot building as a place that many could enjoy. With his background in commercial construction and economic development, a distillery idea came to life.
Iron Street Distillery opened to the public January 14, 2023.
The name? Inspired by the historic railway that outlines three sides of the massive building we now call home.
Our Mission
At Iron Street Distillery, we are on a mission to produce fantastic spirits in the back of house and bring those forward to create delicious, fresh, handcrafted cocktails with excellent service.
- Kevin has been known to say, “I have an idea….” which has led himself and his wife Julie to embark on many creative ventures over the last 35 years. Startups are a very large undertaking but we are working towards some great cocktails and some adventures as well, which make for a full and fun life. Saving this beautiful historic 100 year old building was Kevin’s first goal.
